Signhills Academy was built and opened in 1969 in a pleasant site just back from the seafront and adjoining Cleethorpes Cricket Club. It is a Junior School with three hundred and sixty children on role. Children at the school are based in twelve mixed ability class groups and the school currently employs over fifty staff. The School has a very good reputation and attracts a high percentage of children from a wide geographical area centred on Cleethorpes.
The accommodation in the single storey building includes twelve classrooms and a number of shared areas designed to promote collaborative learning. This comprises of two halls, one of which operates a state of the art lights and video projection system, and also includes a double sized classroom that houses a successful after school club, a retro cafe, a learning street and our own indoor swimming pool. There is also an administration area with the usual range of designated rooms
The school shares the same site as Signhills Infant Academy. There is a history of a successful partnership with the two schools in many areas including joint committees and working parties.
After much thought, and consultation, Signhills converted to become an Academy in August 2011. The Governors made the decision based on the strong school ethos and their high aspirations for the future of Signhills.
As part of the process of converting to an Academy, Signhills became a founder member of the Athena Primary Learning Alliance. This is a relaxed group of eight other like-minded schools that are continually working together to make our schools better as a group while maintaining our own total independence. It started from a small group of heads with an interest in making ICT an effective learning tool and has grown into a truly supportive cluster of schools. It now shares an interest in ICT, Curriculum Innovation, Staff Development, Teacher Training and shared Policies which member schools buy in or out of as they wish.
